Christmas Day

Blizzard conditions brought 6 t0 8 inches of new snow to the West Elk trails for Christmas. Temps were in the teens with a wicked cold wind.

The photo above was taken in the aspen copse just past Dorothy’s view so we were out of the wind. Conditions were more severe in open areas on Hwy 819 and Kay’s Loop.

Tod machine packed Hwy 819 and Kay’s and ran the Ginzugroomer around both trails. Thank you Tod! However the wind was drifting over the trail on 819 as fast as he could groom it. But the stakes are out so the trail is visible now. As you can see by the photos the groomed trail in the woods is beautiful. The snow is cold and soft, but not powdery.

Eric’s Loop was machine packed and several of us skied it before today’s storm. So there is a base out there  for anyone who wants to break trail with snowshoes or skis. About 6 to 8 inches of new snow. And we didn’t get all the stakes set.

Next grooming operations are scheduled for Friday, December 30.

Happy Christmas!
