West Elk fenceline 03-06-16

The season is winding down.  The warm weather over the last few weeks has taken it’s toll on the trails.  The trailhead is pockmarked from boot tracks and the sun melting dirty snow.  The trailhead is in poor condition. Hwy 819 is in fair condition as the majority of current users have been walking on and punching holes in the trail.  Eric’s Loop is holding up well, except where high sun exposure is shrinking the trail so it’s getting narrower in several areas.

It was cloudy today, temps in the low 30’s, with light snow off and on.  Around a half an inch had accumulated by mid-day and more snow is expected over the next couple days.

TRAIL CONDITIONS

The No Foot Traffic signs were taken down by vandals, however the trail restrictions still apply.  Hikers and runners should use the Rifle Snowmobile Club’s snowmobile trails.
As trail conditions deteriorate expect to encounter many hazards on the trails, such as broken branches, holes, exposed shrubs and treetops.
