James's Loop -- Photo by Bruce Kime

Light snow and flat light to start the day.  The snowfall increased so by mid afternoon, it was heavy and a white out in the meadows.  All the trails have been groomed so there will be nice powder on flat, firm trials through the week.

About James’s Loop

James’s Loop is the snowshoe loop. It has not been fully tracked yet this season.  With close to 5 feet of snow in the woods, no hardy souls have trekked around the whole 3-mile loop.  Bruce Kime and a couple other people have tracked the trail from Hwy 819 down to the the turn at Mansfield Ditch Trail.  So James’s Loop has been tracked to that point.

Additionally, Bruce reports: “There is a downed tree on the trail. It’s in the first part of the trail in the heavily treed corridor. I made it so people can step over it, but skiers will need to take their skis off. Otherwise, the trail is good.”

Please note that James’s Loop has not been tracked from the turn there back up to Hwy 820 past the Cowboy Camp Cabin.  While grooming today, Tod Tibbetts tried to take the new Bearcat grooming sled on Hwy 820 to pack down the hill.  The snow was too deep for that sled, so he didn’t get too far.   If you venture on James’s Loop, make certain you know the route because it is still not fully marked.
