Who’s that guy on the Bearcat?

West Elk Chief Groomer 12-24-15

Tod Tibbetts, West Elk Volunteer Groomer, on the new Bearcat grooming sled.

snowman_skiThat’s Tod Tibbetts. He has spent 7 of the past 11 days on the West Elk trails, packing and grooming trails, putting out posts and stakes, and organizing volunteers. The trails are in fabulous condition.

THANK YOU TOD!

Tod groomed Hwy 819 and Kay’s Loop on Sunday. He also packed Eric’s Loop with the Bearcat. Temps reached mid-30s. Our base is holding up well, and the snow on top is soft.

West Elk Multi-Use Club is in the process of purchasing the Bearcat grooming sled. The newer (2010) sled is on the trails and has been in use for the past 2 weeks. Trail users have been asking Tod:

How’s that new Bearcat grooming sled working?

Tod says:

First of all because the Bearcat is a grooming sled it sets a wider track and fluffs up the snow. For that reason it requires fewer trips around to pack the trails than our current and previous sleds. That saves time and fuel. It’s also quieter than our old sleds and doesn’t stink.

Again because it’s grooming sled the Bearcat has a lot of power at slow speeds, which means it doesn’t get stuck in the deep snow as much as our old sleds. And I’ve learned it does have some drift busting capability which makes a big difference in the open areas along Hwy 819.

All in all it makes the groomer’s job a whole lot easier.
