Executive Director Tod Tibbetts will conduct a short business meeting. We will also have a groomers meeting and discuss our grooming program for the 2013/2014 season.

On October 3, Tod Tibbetts and Todd Kupka spent the day doing fall trail maintenance, brush cutting and clearing downfall. Kay Robinson recently rode the trail on horseback. They all say the trail is ready for snow!

Last season, groomers logged 270 volunteer hours on trail maintenance. Our grooming crew included: Tod Tibbetts, Peggy Tibbetts, Edgar Davidson, Bruce Kime, Melissa Dehaan, Steve King, Kay Robinson, Art Dahl, and Todd Kupka. We thank them all for their hard work.

Perhaps you noticed the camera mounted on the tree along Hwy 819 last season. The Forest Service asked us for a count of the number of trail users. Our camera helped us count approximately 600 trail users (that includes repeat users) during the 2012-13 ski season. According to our past guess-timates we feel this represents a 30% increase in trail users from the previous season (2011-12). The majority of West Elk trail users are from Silt, Rifle, New Castle, Glenwood Springs, and Carbondale.

This year — as every other year — we need volunteers to help with trail maintenance, which includes snowmobile packing, snowshoe packing, trail leveling, trail marking and stake placement.

You can add your name to the schedule by contacting Tod Tibbetts.

West Elk Multi-Use Club thanks Garfield County, Holy Cross Energy Round Up Foundation, and the Town of Silt for their financial support.

The $25 voluntary membership fee is one way you can show your support and appreciation for the hard work and dedication that goes into the maintenance and grooming of our trails year after year.
